Dear Hugo,
There’s no *easy* method to control IanniX with MIDI. The best solution is to use OSC.
You can convert MIDI to OSC messages with programmer software (Max, PureData, Processing…) or mapping tools (OSCulator or many other free tools you can find on the Internet). To discover the OSC messages in IanniX, open the Help window then all the action you’ll perform in the graphical user interface of IanniX will be translated in OSC messages in this panel.
Best,
Hi:
It’s me again, one year later. 😉 I can’t solve yet the sintaxis of this line to assign a MIDI message from Processing to a Iannix cursor. I copied:
iannix.send(“setmessage”, “selection”, “0,”, “midi://midi_out/ccf”, 1, 1, “cursor_value_x”);
So I understand to change it like this:
iannix.send(“setmessage”, 1, 20, “midi://midi_out/ccf”, 1, 1, “cursor_value_x”);
But Processing said it’s wrong:
« Method it’s not applicable »
So, obviously it has to do with the string or float or int in the argument…
But which parameter is wrong ?
I can do it thru the script editor
run(« setMessage 1 20, midi://midi_out/ » + « ccf » + » 1 2 cursor_value_y »);
and it works fine but I reaaaally do need to make it thru P55:
Please help me !!!
I just found out !!!!!
This is the right line:
iannix.send(« setmessage 1 20, midi://midi_out/ccf 1 1 cursor_value_y »);
Just one parameter and all is just a string !!!!!
Toujours en phase de residences de creation, mais ca fonctionne, il reste juste a apprivoiser tout ca 🙂
Hi there,
Amongst my million questions, I’d like to know how to get coordinates of the first point of a curve (for instance) in order to test it.
How should I do that ?
As I’m using retro active score, I need to test it as it is varying.
Best,
Julien
Hi there,
globally, how to get values like :
– cursor_nb_loop
– trigger_message_ID
I can’t get the way to do this
thanks a lot
julien
How to generate/create triggers automatically on a curve ?
I achieved to do that using the GUI, but How could I do this by script ?
Idea I’d like to experiment:
I create a curve (like a polyline) with a specific number of segment, I create all triggers on my whole polyline, I remove some randomly and I have a new sequence 🙂
Hi Julian,
I first answer your question here — then I’ll take to read and answer your email 🙂
For now, it’s only possible to do this with the GUI, it doesn’t look so complex to make it scriptable. We just have to find free time to do this…
Hi Julien,
You mean getting these values in a script?
Hi,
Not possible in a *clean* way sorry… But you may place a cursor with a very low speed or with a very small run on the curve (cf. loop points) at the beginning of the curve so that you can get a kind of good approximation of the first point of the curve.
Hi,
Is there a way to map pitch (e.g., in Midicents) or frequency (in Hertz), and time (e.g., in Miliseconds), to the y and x axes of IanniX’s UI, respectively? More specifically, I would like to map the y position of Triggers and Curves either to pitch or frequency, and to map the x position to time both as onset(attack) and duration in a precise way, and use such mapping(s) to compose with IanniX.
Any hints or insights on this issue would be much appreciated.
All the best,
António
Hi,
You may have a look at the example « Xenakis Metastaseis linear » which is basically a time/frequency-based score. Be aware IanniX never generate sound, it only sends data to another software.
Hi,
Thank you for the input, I have far better grasp now of what I need to do…
Happy new year to everyone at Buzzing Light.
All the best,
António
hello!
you developed a wonderful tool! i am fasninated by the visual beauty it provides.
i have a question on how to present a iannix project. as a graphic designer unfortunately i am not very familiar with any kind of « music software ». i managed to build some « geographical maps » which are now represented by sound via ableton live.
as i would like to be independent from a live presentation i wonder how to export the data to a video!
i am aware about the fact that this is a very simple question of a layman… but still thank you very much for your understanding and support!
julia
Hey Julia! If by « export the data to video » you mean use the visualization you see on the screen and export it, if you are in a mac environement, you can use the « syphon out » (under the config/software) tabs if your capture software can have a Syphon in. If not, you can look for NDI tools to help you send the video feed internally and capture it with any software that can do video acquisition.
I’m not from the Iannix team, maybe they have a better solution than that 🙂 cheer.
