Has anyone here tried incorporating a TV lift mechanism into their DIY furniture projects? I’ve been playing around with the idea of building a hidden TV cabinet at the foot of our bed, but I’m not entirely sure how complex the actual lift installation would be. I’m comfortable with woodworking but never messed with actuators or anything electronic. Any advice or examples would be awesome.

Hey, yeah I’ve actually built something very similar last fall. I converted an old storage bench into a motorized TV lift for our guest room. The wiring part isn’t that bad if you follow the product manual carefully and know how to hide cables neatly. I used a heavy-duty actuator from Progressive Automations that’s strong enough to lift a pretty big screen – this one to be exact 2000 lb linear actuator: https://www.progressiveautomations.ca/products/heavy-duty-linear-actuator. It took some trial and error to get the mounting bracket aligned perfectly, but the result was worth it. One tip: make sure you leave enough clearance behind and under the screen for airflow and cabling. I also added a simple remote switch system to make it easier for guests to use.

That sounds super cool, I’ve always wanted to try something like that! Haven’t built one myself yet, but I’ve seen a friend’s version where the lift came up from a kitchen island – looked like something from a home design show.
